====== Announcements ====== ---- == Unofficial course grades == Unofficial course grades are . ---- == Problem Set == Question 6.5 (the one with the missing figure) is hereby removed from the problem set. Question 4.2 (the other one with the missing figure) -- here it is: ---- == Lab 4 posted == Lab 4 has been posted on the Documents page. NOTE: The original version of Lab 4 contained typos. These have been corrected. Please **clear your browser cache** before reloading. ---- == Quiz 3 and 4 == Quiz 3 and 4 will now take place simultaneously on Thursday, Feb 12. The quizzes will be based on the review problem set, posted below. If you need a copy, please drop by my office. Quiz 3 will be based on problems from Chapter 4, and Quiz 4 will be based on problems from Chapters 6 and 7. ---- == Grade Calculation Changes == As mentioned in class, grade calculation has been slightly changed. The "lab" component of your grade will now be calculated as follows: your best three of the four labs will be assigned a weight of 5.33% each, and your worst of the four labs will be dropped from your grade. In practice, this means Lab 4 is still optional, since not handing it in will give you a grade of zero, which will guarantee that it will be dropped from your grade. However, you might also choose not to hand in Labs 2 or 3, or you can hand in all the labs to ensure that your best work of the four is chosen. ---- == Quizzes 3 and 4 == Quizzes 3 and 4 will be held simultaneously on Tuesday, February 10. These will be review quizzes, to help you get caught up, focusing only on material from before the break. ---- == Review Problem Set == If you have a copy of the textbook, here is the review problem set: * Chapter 4: 4.1, 4.2, 4.7, 4.9, 4.14, 4.16, 4.17, 4.19, 4.27 * Chapter 6: 6.4, 6.5 * Chapter 7: 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, 7.4 Also, you can look at the old problem sets on the Documents page. If you don't have the textbook, drop by my office for a copy of these questions. ---- == Due Dates and Labs == All outstanding due dates are hereby changed to the last day of class in the fall term. Lab 4 is now optional. It will be posted shortly. ---- == Lab 3 == Lab 3 has been posted on the Documents page. A due date will be finalized when the strike ends. ---- == TA strike == It's official. ---- == Problem set 3 == Problem set 3 has been posted to the Documents page. ---- == Quiz Postponed == Quiz 3 is postponed until Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008. ---- == Possibility of a TA strike == In the event of a strike by CUPE 3903 (the union representing teaching assistants and contract faculty), all York University classes will be cancelled. The earliest possible strike date is Thursday, November 6, 2008. You are advised to check the York University web site and local media for further details of strike action. Following a strike, plans will be made to make up for the lost time; these plans will depend on how long the strike lasts, and as such, details cannot be provided in advance. ---- == Lab 2 == Lab 2 has been posted to the Documents page. It is due on November 6. ---- == Extension on Lab 1 == The due date for Lab 1 is extended to Oct 23. ---- == Clarification on the problem set == I've had several questions about #2b from Problem Set 2. In this question, I wanted you to perform the convolution of the signal with the matched filter impulse response, and plot the result of that convolution as a function of time. Question #2 will not appear on the quiz. ---- == Problem set 2 posted == Problem set 2 has been posted to the Documents page. ---- == Midterm to run as scheduled == I have had some questions as to whether the midterm date will be changed. (!= represents the not-equal sign) Question 5: This question is rather hard and will not be on the quiz. ---- == Problem set posted == Problem set 1 has been posted to the Documents page, along with a reading on random processes. ---- == Quiz 1 postponed == Quiz 1 has been postponed to Oct 2. ---- == No class on Sep 16 == Class is canceled on Sep 16, as I will be away at a conference. ---- == First meeting == The first meeting of the course will take place on Thursday, September 4.
