Course Announcements

September 3, 2008

Start of classes.

The first set of lecture notes, Topic Study list, and course information have been posted in the course directory /cs/course/4221.

September 4, 2008

(1) The project and alternative project have been posted in the course directory /cs/course/4221.

(2) Two sample alternative projects A and B, each consisting of two parts Part 1 and Part 2 respectively, have been posted in the course directory. These documents provide detailed instructions on two possible ways to do parts (a)-(d) of the alternative project.

(3) Three computers in 1006b (Prism Robotics Lab) are available for doing the alternative project for the course 4221M on the table in the left hand corner. The three computers are named:

 cse4221-pc01
 cse4221-pc02
 cse4221-pc03

You will have to enter a password to use these hosts. There are three AMCC PowerPC 440 EPx evaluation kits which can signed out with the Lab Monitor on duty. If you wish to work on the alternative project and need the password to the host please e-mail me and I will e-mail the password to you. As there may be more than one group of students using a host/kit, please save your work on your own USB key or CD after each user session to avoid the possibility of losing your work.

Please give enough room to robotics students while working or better yet, avoid using the lab when most of the robotics class is in there. Robotics students will use the lab for projects as well.

There will be times the lab will be closed during certain exams. The Dept will post advance notices but you should keep an eye on those, as you will not be able to get in during the posted closed times.

September 5, 2008

I have just been informed by the Department that one of the glass panels on the robotics lab roof is shattered. The Department will find out next week when that could be replaced. Unfortunately, in the mean time, students cannot enter the lab during next week due to health and safety concerns.

I will inform you as soon as the lab becomes accessible again.
