Grading and Submission Deadlines
- Grading is based on 3 Assignments, a Project and a final Exam. You are encouraged to work on the Assignments and Project as soon as they are handed out and to submit early (re-submission is always possible).
- You may do the Assignments and Project on your own (or with one other student). You may not consult with other students or share your work with other students.
- There are no extensions to published deadlines. This is due to the fact that feedback (whether formally or informally) on the assignments may be given directly after the submission date. All assignments must be handed in by the deadline. A grade of “F” is assigned if the deadline is missed. The only exception is if there is a serious medical emergency – in which case, ask your physician to fill out the standard medical form (available from the departmental office). If the medical letter is deemed acceptable, the weight of the grading unit will be transferred to the Exam.
- The Project must be completed and handed in for this course.
- Since there is usually much more than a week between the handing out of the assignment and its submission, it is best to begin your work early and to submit your work electronically on a regular basis.
- If for any reason a report is incomplete, then you should submit, on or before the due date, all work done to date (organization counts) along with a note describing:
- reasons for the report being incomplete;
- what work has been completed;
- what work remains to be done;
- anticipated completion date were you to continue working on the report.
- You have two weeks after grades are released to ask for your work to be graded again. Please detail all your issues in writing, attach it to your Assignment, and hand it to your instructor (within the two week deadline). The whole Assignment will be reviewed and thus it is possible for your grade to increase or decrease.

There is a scheduled laboratory in Prism Labs 1004a and 1004 on March 23rd 4:00 pm - 6-00PM (during lecture time). Students can use this opportunity to obtain help with the Eiffelstudio environment. The workstations will be be in LINUX mode, but you can also bring your laptops if you wish to work in Windows. You may use this opportunity to work on your assignment as well.
Raw Mark Scores and the Final Grade
For each grading unit (Assignment, Project or Exam) you are assigned a raw mark score that ranks you in the class. Also, you will be provided with a mapping from your raw mark score to a letter grade. The raw mark score is not a grade as it is merely used to rank you in the class (so, e.g. a raw mark score of 76 might be a C, not a B+, after the mapping is applied). The mapping will be supplied to you at the same time that your assignment is handed back to you. The final grade is computed from the raw mark scores and maps as shown here.
The meaning of the letter grades assigned by the mapping is givenhere.
