Assignment 2 has been posted in the CSE3221 course directory on red: /cs/course/3221/3221assgn2_F10.pdf
The Due Date for Assignment 2 is Monday, November 1, 2010, 17:30.
A maximum number of two students may work together in a group to complete Assignment 2.
Please also note that submitting an assignment that includes code from any other source without explicit acknowledgment may lead to charges of academic dishonesty. Please refer to the Department's Guidelines on Academic Honesty at http://www.cse.yorku.ca/admin/coscOnAcadHonesty.html

The CSE 3221 midterm test will be held at the following time and location (Please note that the location of the CSE 3221 midterm test is NOT BC215):
Time: Wednesday October 27, 2010, 17:30-19:00
Location: SC 303 (Stong College Room 303)
The Midterm Test will cover the following:
a) Chapters 1-5, and Sections 6.1-6.3 (up to and including the section on Peterson's Solution) of Chapter 6 of the textbook “Operating System Concepts” 8th Edition.
b) The slides OS_ch1.pdf, OS_ch2.pdf, OS_ch3.pdf, OS_ch4.pdf, OS_ch5.pdf, the slides 6.1-6.8 of OS_ch6.pdf, (up to and including the slide on “Algorithm for Process Pi”) - as well as all the material covered in the lectures up to and including the Monday Oct. 25, 2010 lecture. Please make sure that you have the most up-to-date version of the lecture notes.
It is possible that the Midterm Test may include true/false questions, questions that require short answers, questions that require calculations, questions that may require the drawing of diagrams, questions that require slightly longer answers, questions that may require the writing of short programs using pseudo C code similar to that used throughout the textbook, and other possible question formats.
- Please note that, in order to make sure that everyone in the class gets exactly the same information regarding the midterm and final exam, the instructor will not answer individual e-mail questions regarding what will be on and what will not be on the midterm and final exam, because that would not be fair to those students who do not receive such information. - If you have any questions related to the midterm or final exam, please ask such questions during the lectures.

The due date for CSE3221 Assignment 2 has been extended to Wednesday November 3, 17:30. Assignments that are handed in after Wednesday November 3, 17:30, but on or before Monday November 8, 17:30, will be subject to a 1 grade point penalty (e.g., B reduced to C+); Assignments that are handed in after Monday November 8, 17:30, but on or before Wednesday November 10, 17:30, will be subject to a 2 grade point penalty (e.g., B reduced to C); No assignments will be accepted after Wednesday November 10, 17:30.
The following is required: 1. Drop off a hard copy of the assignment into the CSE3221 assignment dropoff box which is located on the first floor of CSEB, behind the department office. 2. Electronically submit the assignment to the course directory /cs/course/3221/submit/a2 using the “submit” command. You may use “man submit” to learn how to use the submit command.
Following the advice in the answer to Question 3 in FAQs is likely to make doing Assignment 2 easier.

The Due Date for Assignment 3 is Friday, December 10, 2010, 17:30.
Please also note that the due date of this assignment, Friday December 10, 2010, falls on the Last Day to Hand In Term Work according to the University Regulations. Thus it will not be possible to postpone the due date of this assignment. So please plan carefully in advance in order to make sure that you will be able to complete this assignment before the posted due date.

The CSE3221 Midterm Test marks are posted in the course directory. To obtain your CSE3221 Midterm Test mark, log in to your cs account on Red, then type in the following command:

Time: Wednesday December 22, 2010, 9:00-12:00
Location: SLH E (Stedman Lecture Hall Room 'E')
The Final Exam will cover the following:
