Building eCommerce Systems

This course examines the technological infrastructure of eCommerece systems. On the server side, it starts with sockets and then covers HTTP servers, server-side scripting, session tracking, and multi-tier web applications. Several frameworks are introduced but the emphasis is on JEE (servlet containers, beans, JSP) and its design patterns. Content storage, structure, presentation, and formatting are explored through JDBC, XML, XHTML, SAX/DOM, XSL, and CSS. On the client side, javascript is used and, time permitting, GWT and AJAX are introduced. The course also covers SOA (SOAP and WSDL) using Apache Axis web services.
