L3 is an attempt at classifying key network ideas that are otherwise scattered throughout the book (and some of which we discussed by way of example in L1 and L2).
L4 Basic Networking Calculations
L4 is an attempt at introducing you right away to some key calculations you can do on signals going through networks as well as trying to develop a consistent set of terms for those calculations. Again it ties together stuff that is scattered throughout the book but key points areas include 3.2.2, pg. 299 (which the book actually asks questions on in Problems 1.14 and 1.15, A.1.
L5 Protocols, Layers, Services
