- | ===== Our Mission ===== | +
- | + | ||
- | The goal of our project is to exploit the accelerometer sensors on the smart phones and use the data to get the sense of the characteristics of the user. | +
- | There are many applications based on the smartphone accelerometer data which uses the accelerometer values as thresholds to trigger events and activities. But very minimal research has been done on the accelerometer data as stream of signals. This is our goal. We are working towards processing the discrete data sampled at continuos intervals from accelerometer and characterize it by detecting a pattern of signal variations over time and frequencies. | +

- | ===== SafetyFirst Technical Description===== | +
- | + | ||
- | The SafetyFirst project is an initiative built in response to the raise of safety concerns in our surrounding communities. Our commitment at BlueHawks is to use advanced technology present in smartphones to provide security prevention tools and fast response services to a person at risk. Our main focus is to implement cheap and accessible solutions to our application users and to security authorities. We hope to bring a reliable solution that will drastically reduce the issues faced by York University security authorities and students. | +

- | - Gesture Recognition is used to activate features on the Safety App and to quickly message all the user's contacts in case of an emergency. Gesture Recognition is achieved by reading data from inbuilt accelerometers and gyroscopes. The user's request is decoded by comparing the input gesture to pre-recorded gestures using the Dynamic Time Wrapping method. | +

- | - Analytics is used to identify and obtain more data about unsafe areas on Campus. This will hopefully reinforce Campus security in those zones. | +
