Grades

The weight distribution of the course components is as follows:

• 10% - Assignment 1
• 10% - Assignment 2
• 20% - Midterm
• 10% - Assignment 3
• 25% - Project
• 25% - Final Exam

For each grading unit <m>i</m> you will receive a raw mark score (<m>s_i</m>), a max raw mark score (<m>m_i</m>) and a weight (<m>w_i</m>).

The final raw grade is calculated using the following formula:

<m>R = ∑_i((s_i * w_i)/m_i)</m>

Conversion from numeric to letter grade is applied to the final raw grade only and in accordance with the following departmental standard:

• Common Grading Scheme for Undergradate Faculties

• If you miss the deadline for assignments, a 20% penalty is applied for each day. After 5 days your grade will be automatically an F.
• If you miss the midterm test, your grade will be automatically F unless the official attending physician's statement is filled out and the physician certifies that you were unable to write due to illness at the time of the test. You must present the Physician's statement to the instructor the first lecture after the test or when you're back at school. Alternative arrangements for the test will then be made.
• Unless in hospital, you are required to submit your assignments on time as this work was anounced in advance.
• If you miss the exam you will also be required to hand in a physician's statement. Alternative exam time has to be aranged through the office!

If you want your assignment, test or project regraded, then within ONE week of receiving the feedback do the following:

• Write out precisely and concisely your concerns.
• Staple your written concerns to your feedback document
• Return the above to the instructor within one week of receiving your feedback.

NOTE: As a result og regrading your grade can be higher or lower.
