EECS4641: Introduction to Medical Devices

Description

This course builds on the foundation in measurement techniques by developing the students’ understanding of medical devices. This course applies the classical knowledge of electronic circuits and systems techniques to the development of electrophysiological sensing systems and other basic medical devices. Background in electronic circuit design are required before taking the course. Topics include the design, operation and applications of Electrocradiography (ECG), Electroencephalography (EEG), Electromyography (EMG) and Electrooculography (EOG) techniques as well as respiratory and blood circulation measurement devices. In each topic, students will learn the related theoretical and practical issues from both engineering and medical perspectives with a focus on needs assessment, creativity, and innovation as they seek to identify market opportunities.
