Start of classes for EECS 2011E Fall 2017.

Lecture notes for the next few classes will be posted in the EECS 2011E course directory on red: /cs/course/2011E

You are required to hand in hard copies, and electronic copies of all assignments. Please use the “submit” command to submit electronic copies of all assignments to the course directory /cs/course/2011E/submit. Use the command “man submit” to learn how to use the “submit” command.

The EECS 2011E midterm test will be held at the following time:

Time: Tuesday October 24, 2017, 9:30-11:00

Location: TBA

Please note that EECS 2011 Section E Fall 2017 Assignment 1 has been posted in the course directory /cs/course/2011E/2011E_assign_1_F17.pdf

The due date for EECS 2011 Section E Fall 2017 Assignment 1 is: Tuesday October 17, 2017, 9:30 a.m.

EECS 2011 Section E Fall 2017 Assignment 1 must be completed by groups where each group consists of exactly two students.

In case you cannot find a partner to form a group of two students, please send the instructor email, and the instructor will put you in contact with other students who cannot find a partner, so that you can contact each other to see whether you would like to form a group for the purpose of completing the assignments.

Please note also that the assignment document /cs/course/2011E/2011E_assign_1_F17.pdf may be updated without further notice. Please make sure that you have the most up-to-date version of the assignment.

Please note the following regarding handing in EECS 2011 Section E Fall 2017 Assignment 1:

1. The due date for submitting an electronic copy to the /cs/course/2011E/submit/a1 directory and dropping off a hard copy into the EECS 2011 Section E drop off box (located in Lassonde) of your EECS 2011 Section E Fall 2017 Assignment 1 without penalty is:

Tuesday October 17, 2017, 9:30 a.m.

2. If you are not able to meet the above due date, but are able to submit an electronic copy and drop off a hard copy of your EECS 2011 Section E Fall 2017 Assignment 1 on or before:

Thursday October 19, 2017, 9:30 a.m.

then your assignment will be subject to a two (2) grade point penalty. For example, a reduction from a grade of 'B' to a grade of 'C'.

3. After Thursday October 19, 2017, 9:30 a.m., Assignment 1 will not be accepted and the assignment grade will be 'F'.

The EECS 2011 Section E Midterm Test will be held at the following time:

Time: Tuesday October 24, 2017, 9:30-11:00 a.m.

Please note that there are two separate EECS 2011 Section E Midterm Test locations where the location for each student is determined by the first letter of his/her last/family name (please note that a student will not be allowed to enter a midterm test location which does not satisfy the following):

(1) For students for which the first letter of his/her last/family name is in the range of A - Q (in alphabetic order), the EECS 2011 Section E Midterm Test location is: CLH 'B' (Curtis Lecture Hall 'B')

(2) For students for which the first letter of his/her last/family name is in the range of R - Z (in alphabetic order), the EECS 2011 Section E Midterm Test location is: ACE 007 (Accolade East Building Room 007)

The Midterm Test will cover the following:

a) Chapters 1 - 9 of the textbook “Data Structures and Algorithms in Java” 6th Edition.

b) Chapter 11, Design by Contract: building reliable software, in the book authored by Bertrand Meyer, “Object-oriented software construction,” Prentice Hall, 1997. (A copy of Chapter 11 of Bertrand Meyer’s book above can be found in the course directory: /cs/course/2011E/Design_by_Contract.pdf)

c) All the slides in DS.1.pdf, DS_2.pdf, DS.3.pdf, DS.4.pdf, DS.4_part2.pdf, DS.4.part3.pdf, DS.5.pdf, DS.6.pdf, DS.7.pdf, DS.8.pdf, DS.9.pdf - as well as all the material covered in the lectures up to and including the Thursday October 19, 2017 lecture. Please make sure that you have the most up-to-date version of the lecture notes.

It is possible that the Midterm Test may include true/false questions, questions that require short answers, questions that require calculations, questions that may require the drawing of diagrams, questions that require slightly longer answers, questions that may require the writing of short programs using Java code or pseudocode similar to that used throughout the textbook, and other possible question formats.

- Please note that, in order to make sure that everyone in the class gets exactly the same information regarding the midterm and final exam, the instructor will not answer individual e-mail questions regarding what will be on and what will not be on the midterm and final exam, because that would not be fair to those students who do not receive such information. - If you have any questions related to the midterm or final exam, please ask such questions during the lectures.

EECS 2011 Section E Fall 2017 Assignment 3 must be completed by groups where each group consists of exactly two students.

Please note that, according to the final exam scheduled published by York University (https://w2prod.sis.yorku.ca/Apps/WebObjects/cdm.woa/wa/curexam), the EECS 2011 Section E Final Exam will be held at the following time and location:

Thursday, December 14, 2017, 19:00-22:00; location: LAS B

The EECS 2011 Section E Final Exam will cover the following:

a) Chapters 1 - 12 and Chapter 14 of the textbook “Data Structures and Algorithms in Java” 6th Edition.

b) Chapter 11, Design by Contract: building reliable software, in the book authored by Bertrand Meyer, “Object-oriented software construction,” Prentice Hall, 1997. (A copy of Chapter 11 of Bertrand Meyer’s book above can be found in the course directory: /cs/course/2011E/Design_by_Contract.pdf)
