What's New

Course updates will be logged here in reverse chronological order.
  • Dec 9 2018 Assignment 4 grades have been posted.
  • Dec 6 2018 I have extended the deadline for project reports to 11:59pm this Tues Dec 11th. I have also posted guidelines for the report on Moodle and this wiki course site (under project).
  • Dec 4 2018 Grades for the project demos have been posted.
  • Dec 4 2018 Project Reports are due by 11:59pm this Mon Dec 10th. Please submit your report and any source code you developed on Moodle. Remember that the report must be no more than 8 pages in length (excluding references) and must be in CVPR 2018 format.
  • Dec 4 2018 Project Presentations. Great job everyone on your project presentations yesterday!
  • Dec 4 2018 Assignment 4. Hakki and I have discussed Assignment 4 and agreed that it would be best if in addition to your short report listing your tables of parameters and uncertainties you also submit your code for Questions 2 and 3. The Moodle submission site has been updated to permit the uploading of multiple files.
  • Dec 3 2018 By popular demand, the deadline for Assignment 4 has been extended to tomorrow, Tuesday Dec 4th at 11:59pm.
  • Nov 29 2018 Here are the announcements for yesterday's lecture, which include some notes on Assignment 4: Nov 28 announcements
  • Nov 28 2018. Assignment 3 grades have been posted on Moodle.
  • Nov 28 2018 A4 Q2. I have updated the functions to display the 3D rotations and reposted them on Moodle. This should solve the bug Maria reported.
  • Nov 27 2018 Assignment 4 Q3. To report your bootstrapped uncertainty in the estimated rotation matrix, I recommend that you report the RMS angular deviation (in deg) between the bootstrapped frames and the ML frame. Recall that the relative rotation R12 between two rotations R1 and R2 is R1R2^-1. This can be converted to an angle using the MATLAB function rotm2axang.
  • Nov 27 2018 Assignment 4 Q2-3. Be careful with MATLAB functions rotationMatrixToVector and rotationVectorToMatrix. They are self-consistent, but do not use the right-hand rule.
  • Nov 27 2018 Assignment 4 Q2. I have updated the functions to display the 3D rotations and reposted them on Moodle. They should be clearer now.
  • Nov 27 2018 Assignment 4 Q2. I have added a list of useful MATLAB functions to the assignment - please download a fresh copy.
  • Nov 26 2018 Assignment 4 Q2. I took a look at LSB and realized that the ground slopes, so the world frame I specified is not actually aligned with the building. I have shifted the world frame up to correct this. Please download a new version of the assignment that has the correct world frame indicated.
  • Nov 25 2018 Assignment 4 Q2. I have updated the slides for Lecture 6.2 with some details that will help you for A4 Q2. In particular, please see Slides 11-21. I have also posted a couple of display functions on the Moodle site that may help you visualize your camera rotations.
  • Nov 21 2018 Assignment 3 solutions have been posted on the Moodle site.
  • Nov 19 2018 Assignment 4 Q2-3 hint: Use the 6-point DLT method to get an initial estimate of K and R. Then switch K to the known calibrated value and use the iterative method to compute refined estimates of R and t.
  • Nov 18 2018 Please bring a camera (at least a camera phone) to the lab tomorrow. You will be working on geometric calibration of your camera for Assignment 4.
  • Nov 18 2018 I have posted the midterm solutions on Moodle. Sorry for the delay.
  • Nov 15 2018 Assignment 3. I have posted an example result on Moodle.
  • Nov 13 2018 Assignment 3. Computing subbands recursively results in a 40% reduction in computation. However this does come at the expense of a more rapid erosion of the 'valid' region of the image. This results from the sub-additive nature of the Gaussian filter space constants/window sizes over composition.
  • Nov 9 2018 Project proposals have now been graded. You can see your grade and comments on Moodle.
  • Nov 7 2018 We have been moved again to Stong College 303 as of our next meeting this Mon Nov 12th.
  • Nov 7 2018 There will be no TA office hour for the week of Nov 12. There will be a replacement office hour on Mon Nov 19 1PM-2PM.
  • Nov 7 2018 Hakki's office hour has changed to Thursday 11AM - 12PM.
  • Nov 6 2018 I have revised the schedule to eliminate the lecture on Dense Motion Estimation. The next topic will be Feature-Based Alignment.
  • Nov 5, 2018 IMPORTANT: We have been reassigned to Stong College Rm. 211 effective immediately. See you there Wednesday.

  • 29 Sept 2018 Assignment 1 typo: Please note that you should submit 4 MATLAB functions, not 3.
  • 29 Sept 2018 Assignment 1 error: whiteBalance.m should return an image in double format, not the format of the input image, to avoid overflow error.
