Printer Setup on MacOS
- Download the print driver for the printer you will be installing. You can view a list of available printers with links to the print drivers here. If you don't have the driver for the printer that you're installing, you will be able to use a generic one.
- From the Apple Menu, select “System Preferences”.
- Open “Printers and Scanners”.
- Click the “+” button and choose “Add Printer or Scanner”. An “Add” window will appear.
- In order to add an EECS printer to MacOS, you must have an “Advanced” button on the “Add Printer” toolbar (looks like a “gear”). If you don't have the “Adavanced” icon, you need to customize the toolbar and add it. To do this, press CTRL+click on the toolbar area, and select “Customize Toolbar”, then drag the “Advanced” icon onto the end of the toolbar and click “Done”.
- Click on “Advanced” on the toolbar.
- Add the printer as follows:
- Type: Windows
- Device: Another Device
- URL: smb://pcserver1.eecs.yorku.ca/<printer_queue_name>?encryption=no (where <printer_queue_name> is replaced by the printer queue name taken from the list of EECS printers - eg. prt2)
- Location: enter the location of the printer
- Print Using: Select the print driver that you have installed, or specify “Use Generic PostScript” if you don't have access to a suitable driver.
- Click “Add”.
- Configure the appropriate installed options for the printer. For example, enable the duplex option, then click “Continue”.
- When you print, you will be asked to enter your EECS username and password.
