Rules
- The current research data and quotas move as is; no extra charge.
- All research faculty (~40) get up to 100 GB each; when they ask; no extra charge. It does not have to be allocated all at once.
- When faculty asks for extra space above 100 GB, up to 500 GB; they pay $1/GB, one time only for the duration of this cycle; minimum cycle is 3 years. 1
- Faculty who ask for more than 500 GB need Tech Support and Infrastructure Committee's approval.
- In cases where a faculty member has a personal research space, and a lab research space, they will get 100 GB in total split between the two spaces.
- BACKUP: Data up to 14 days (2 weeks) old can be recovered from the backup server upon request via tech support.
- The research data and the backup reside in the server room, in Lassonde Building. There is no off-site backup.
- DISASTER: Research data is protected by RAID. In case of major RAID system disaster it would take 3-5 days to restore 20 TiB.
- Research space is available from EECS tech-supported Linux systems as well as from local PCs and Macs via EECS accounts.
1 UIT charge is $1 per GB per year; only accessible via FAS account.
