CMC STC
CMC Microsystems provides a server for us which includes:
- a collection of CMC managed and supported software components used for CAD and EDA
- a distribution mechanism for delivery of the software components to CMC client subscribers
- CADconnect license key middleware
- local license server
Anyone using any of the STC components and infrastructure is required to have a current CMC Designer level or Prototype level subscription. Information about the CMC subscriptions can be found here.
For each faculty member, the subscription covers any of his/her supervised students, post-doctoral fellows and research assistants who have an account with CMC. Designer Subscriptions will allow for use of tools/kits for training, including use by students who are not supervised grad students of the Subscription holder.

General Notes
- The CMC STC is available as /CMC on indigo (a Linux system), and from any other tech-supported Departmental Linux system as required.
- If you plan to use tools from CMC, licensing will either occur through one of two mechanisms, depending on the tool and from where you are accessing it:
- CADactivate:
- from tech-managed Linux: /CMC/local/bin/cadactivate (In both cases, you must wait 24 hours for approval)
- CADpass v3.0:
- from tech-managed Linux: /CMC/local/bin/cadpass
Accessing The Tools
After you have been granted access to the tools that you require, please consult the CMC Tool Matrix for software that is available in our local Linux STC. For additional software that is available for local installation on your PC, consult CAD Tool Access Matrix 2.0|this page for download links and quick start guides.
NOTE: Before you can use any tools from the STC, you will need to add one line to the end of your .cshrc file:
[-r /CMC/local/share/licenses ] && source /CMC/local/share/licenses
You will also need to source additional files as reported by the CMC tool matrix above.
COMSOL for Linux
1) Run “cadpass” and login. 2) source /CMC/scripts/comsol.52.csh (can add to your .cshrc) 3) comsol
NOTE: You must run comsol from a local system, not via SSH.
Using CMC Tools For Teaching
- For information on using design tools for teaching, please refer to the following page on CMC community: http://www.cmc.ca/WhatWeOffer/Design/Tools/CADactivate/CADactivateInstructions/courseinstructions.aspx
- Students can CADactivate from a Linux system with /CMC here: /CMC/scripts/CADactivate/cadactivate.sh
- Students can CADactivate from a Windows system here: http://www.cmc.ca/en/WhatWeOffer/Design/Cadactivate.aspx
